Piyumi Samaratunga leads Constangy’s Minneapolis office, serving clients in regards to primarily employment based Immigration matters. She was raised in Sri Lanka and moved to the United States in 1996. Although she had two degrees — one from Sri Lanka Law College and another from the University of Cambridge, where she was a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholar — she earned a third law degree from Hamline University, permitting her to obtain a license to practice law in Minnesota.

Combining her expertise in corporate law with her passion for immigration issues, Ms. Samaratunga helps employers, including corporations, universities and health care providers, navigate legal issues pertaining to immigration and hiring foreign national employees.  In mid-2015, she moved her practice to Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, where she became a key leader of the Constangy Immigration Practice Group.

Ms. Samaratunga lives in St. Louis Park and serves on the board of the Greater Twin Cities United Way and chairs its governance committee. She serves on the nominations committee for the YWCA board in Minneapolis where she was a former board member.
